At a glance: 2016 – 2024 · Co-founder and CEO of a consumer packaged goods company, through its 2019 acquisition; later CEO of the acquiring platform
What was the situation?
I co-founded a consumer packaged goods company in a highly regulated industry, launched its brand statewide and then led its operations through a major regulatory transition.
Later, as CEO of the multi-state operating company that acquired it, I led a statewide product recall on behalf of one of its portfolio companies.
What was my role?
As co-founder and CEO, I was responsible for the company's product development, production, distribution and compliance. As CEO of the acquiring platform, I directed the recall and its regulatory reporting.
What did we do?
- Launched and scaled distribution. We took the brand from launch to statewide distribution, producing about 50,000 units a month.
- Converted licensing and compliance. We carried the company's facility licensing and operations through the regulatory transition and converted them to the new framework.
- Implemented state track-and-trace. We put state track-and-trace systems in place across every stage of production and distribution.
- Executed the recall. We coordinated the retrieval, reconciliation and disposition of hundreds of thousands of units across the retail channel, keeping regulatory reporting and chain-of-custody records complete throughout.
What were the results?
- 150+ retail outlets, about a quarter of the statewide market, within eight months of launch
- Statewide distribution in under three years
- Licensing and operations converted to the new regulatory framework
- A 2019 acquisition by a venture-backed, multi-state operating company
- A statewide recall completed with regulatory reporting and chain-of-custody records maintained
What does this mean for your company?
When regulation shapes how your operation runs, compliance has to be built into the system, not added afterward. That's the work of Consulting projects and Implementation Oversight engagements.
